Just Win Baby!

When talking goaltenders, we hear a lot about SV%, GAA, and SA, but what about the stat that really matters, P%.

In other words, when they play, do their teams earn points, because, at the end of the day, that’s what really matters, right?

Here’s a list of P% for the #1 goaltenders of the leagues top 16 teams, listed as the teams are ranked (p%).

(P% of goaltender/P% of the team)

(5/1) BOS/Tim Thomas – 0.667 (18-7-0)

(3/2) NYR/Henrik Lundqvist – 0.677 (19-8-4)

(9/3) PHI/Ilya Bryzgalov – 0.603 (16-9-3)

(4/4) SJS/Antii Niemi – 0.672 (19-7-5)

(7/5) VAN/Roberto Luongo – 0.650 (18-9-3)

(14/13) FLA/Jose Theodore – 0.552 (14-8-4)

(12/14)WSH/Thomas Vokoun – 0.581 (18-10-0)

(11/15) TML/Jonas Gustavsson – 0.591 (13-8-0)

(15/16)MIN/Nik Backstrom – 0.500  (12-11-4)

* least GP (22)

** most GP (40)

Not sure what to make of this, but just thought it would be interesting to see the comparison between P5 earned by the goaltender versus that of the team as a whole.
