Kelly On The Move?

In a recent conversation, it became clear to me Kelly is being shopped around, and you might be surprised to read who is very interested.

The Leafs.

Yup, apparently Kelly is earning a long look from the Leafs who are in need of some improvement on the defensive side of the puck.

Obviously it would take a decent return for Murray to mitigate improving a team within his own division, and with most of their decent picks already traded away, Burke would have to offer up a prospect of some note, say, Tlusty?

Oh Oh – you just caused an uproar down the 401. GN, don’t you realize any Leaf player is worth 1.5 times what he’s worth elsewhere? Kelly for Tlusty? Are you kidding? They’ll want Kovalev for him.

I don’t think he’ll be moved. But if he is the Stars or Avs (basically a West team in need of defensive minded forwards) would be who I’d bet my 50 cents on. The return? probably a long shot prospect or late pick.

I say there is no chance in hell that BM makes a trade with the Leafs. It’s too risky to bite him in the ass and the Leafs have no-one the Sens want in that range…and not much left for picks either. I think Gerber is the last guy you’ll see go from a Sens jersey straight to a Leaf jersey in a long time…unless a UFA decides he wants to play for the Blowhard in future years.

i still think he should be kept around as a back-up plan for Shannon and Regin.

I’m not in a hurry to jettison Kelly either. He is capable and can play solid, just not gonna deke a goalie out of his drawers while burning his neck with the red light. That said, I’m not gonna break in to tears if he is moved. A raft of injuries and we’ll be glad he’s here for the 3rd line.

Movement of the contract and opening of the spot is more the attraction, not his abilities.

Tlusty noooo! We’ve got prospects that are far ahead of this bum (Regin for sure, O’Brien roughly even, Condra?). So I’d never do that deal. According to Senschirp Dallas and NJ are interested, with the return being piddly. I hope we hang on to Kelly, he’s a fine player. Schubert is the one who should go, probably won’t get anything for him, but if it’s a roster spot we need to clear, that’s the guy. This ‘swing man’ role has only prevented him from improving at either position, it’s a bad career strategy.

  5. So how exactly can Kelly fit onto Kelly’s roster when the Leafs have less cap room than the Sens??

  6. It’s going to come down to tomorrow’s tilt against Boston. As a fan, I would hate to seen any of the vets get booted. It’s easy for us to speculate from the outside, but apparently Donavan, and Kelly are stand up teammates in the locker room. Kelly is a great checker, and he is fast, but has the hands of stone. Give any of those guys more ice time, and they will produce more. But, it is the business of winning, and the team has very precious ice time to alot. They all understand that. For Kelly’s sake, if Clouston doesn’t think he fits, I hope he gets an opportunity elsewhere.

A lot vet ufa players this year were overlooked in favour of younger talent.

Its not fair, but it is what it is.

I saw Regin play last Saturday, and he was awesome. Hopefully, he can continue to play at that pace, because if he can, Fisher will be filling the net, which is always a good thing.

    Chemsitry is everything.
