Schubert & Smith.

Just had an interesting discussion with someone inside the Sens.  It is their belief that Smith will begin the season on the LTIR, but will be immediately waived, should he be able to come off of, and not able to be traded.

Sad, I love Gator’s game…I was very pleased with his signing, and if he could remain on the roster I still believe has something to contribute, albeit, not worthy of his cap hit.

Schubert is currently available for picks, but with no takers, as it is widely believed he will be available via waivers prior to the start of the season.

With Bass, Donnovan, Ruutu and Neil, Schubert is beyond disposable, he’s downright unwanted.  He’ll remain in the NHL, and will provide some decent depth to another team, but he represents a skill set already possessed in spades by the Sens.

With these 2 off of the cap, in one way or another, the situation looks like this;

  1. […] Sen Say:  Schubert & Smith.  Looks like the Sens have an abundance of players at that position so these guys look to be expendable. […]

  2. Absolutely.

  3. With Shubes gone, we may need another bottom 6 left winger. Not sure if anyone other than Ruutu plays consistent 3rd or 4th line left wing… Could be wrong though…

    Hey, it could work. Schubert, Donavan, and picard are dealt or waived.

    JUst wondering since BM was “talking” to Sykora, and Comrie, how it would work with the cap assuming both UFA’s signed for 1.5mil a piece (I know Sykora probably fetches more dough).

    I would feel for the young guys, but that would be a pretty good team, no?

    • I assume you have Smith either waived on on LTIR fro the entire season?
      But, yeah, that looks good up front…the defense remains suspect though. I’d sure like one more bonafide top 4…but Lee may step up.

  5. Yeah, forgot to mention Smith on LTIR 🙂
    I have them only carrying 6 D though, and Karlson is on there, since BM expects him to make the squad.

  6. Just found out Smith is retiring this morning on the TEAM1200. Sens press conference at 10:00am

    It has since been confirmed by Garrioch.
